QuinteQ joins CEO round-table with President Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Jetten

QuinteQ Energy CEO and founder Paul Vosbeek took part in a CEO round-table at the Catshuis in The Hague on 28 October 2026, hosted by Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and Minister of Defence Dilan Yesilgöz on the occasion of the visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. QuinteQ was invited alongside five other Dutch companies and knowledge institutes: Philips, VDL Groep, TNO, Hydrogen Partners and Intelic.

The round-table formed part of President Zelenskyy’s working visit to the Netherlands, which also included talks with the Prime Minister and an audience with King Willem-Alexander. Over the course of an hour, participants set out priorities for the next phase of economic cooperation between the two countries, covering defence production, joint technology and energy projects, and industrial development.

Flywheels for Odesa

QuinteQ’s participation follows directly from work already underway in Ukraine. Starting earlier this year, QuinteQ has been working with the Lockheed Martin Corporation with support from the Commissariat for Military Production, a department of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs & Climate to develop a grid-connected microgrid for the Port of Odesa. This microgrid will allow the Port to operate independently when the national grid is disrupted. Last July, QuinteQ and HHLA International GmbH signed a Memorandum of Agreement at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk for the deliver of a flywheel-enabled port microgrid at the Container Terminal Odesa, which QuinteQ is developing together with Zeppelin Power NL.

As Ukrainian ports are working around the clock under repeated attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure, much of the response today continues to rely on diesel and gas generators. Flywheel energy storage offers near-limitless cycling and ultra-fast response times, which allows a port to ride through grid disturbances, cut peak demand on its connection or generators by 60 to 80 percent, and keep cranes and critical systems running. It is a solution that works for the conditions in Ukraine now, and that fits the clean, low-emission energy system the country is rebuilding towards.

Renewing Dutch commitment

The round-table took place on the same day the Dutch government announced EUR 1.2 billion in non-military support to Ukraine for the period 2027 to 2029. The package is aimed at relieving the most urgent needs in Ukraine, contributing to recovery and reconstruction, and widening opportunities for Dutch companies to take part in that work, with reinforced provision for urgent energy support. During the meeting, participants connected with Kyiv by videoconference, where they witnessed the signing by Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Sjoerd Wiemer Sjoerdsma of the Dutch commitment behind that package. A significant share of the budget is directed at Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

Paul Vosbeek, CEO and founder of QuinteQ Energy: “For me personally and for QuinteQ, this was a unique opportunity to present our work towards energy resilience in Ukraine at the forefront, and moreover, in front of the highest level of leadership in Ukraine. Apart from the current project underway in Odesa, QuinteQ has developed a strategy to scale the flywheel-enabled port microgrid solution to other Ports and Terminals in Ukraine. We will bring the financing, the technology stack and we will bring in the end-users. Having the support from the President’s office for our work is a tremendous boost for our efforts to bring power to the ports and people of Ukraine”.
